Event Regulations
ARTICLE 1 - DESCRIPTION
The fifth edition of the Alpes Open Tour will be held from 13-17 August 2012. This event is organised by "Alpes Velo" and is governed by the regulations of the French Cycling Federation (FFC).
The Alpes Open Tour is a "Rando-sportive" (Article 16.4.002 of the FFC regulations).
Participants taking part in this “rando-sportive” event will ride alongside professional cyclists. The objective is to combine leisure and sport to discover the stunning high mountains of the Alps.
The Alpes Open Tour is open to cyclists who hold federation licences but it is also open to non-licence holders who want to discover the beautiful French Alps.
An all-inclusive 5-day package with 6 nights' accommodation is available.
The Stages of the “Rando-Sportive” are a day rides with professional cyclists, without full timing. The route is sign-posted and benefits from feed stations (food and drink) as well as technical and medical assistance.
ARTICLE 2 - MINIMUM AGE
The event is open to riders of any age in accordance to the "Cycling for All" regulations. However, minors at the date of the event require the registration and presence of a parent.
ARTICLE 3 - PHYSICAL APTITIDE
As the Alpes Open Tour is a non-competitive event, participants are not required to provide a licence or a medical certificate. (Art. 16.4.001 and 16.4.002 of FFC Regulations).
However, participants need to make sure they are physically capable of a 5-stage cycling event in the high mountains.
ARTICLE 4 - SAFETY
Each participant must respect the French traffic laws and ride on the right side of the road at all times. Following cars are prohibited. Wearing a helmet is strongly advised throughout. Participants not wearing helmets do not benefit from the "Individual Accident" insurance cover (see article 6).
ARTICLE 5 - TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE
Technical support is available at the start and finish of every stage. The assistance is free but replacement parts will be charged. It is recommended that participants bring spares to repair punctures.
ARTICLE 6 - INSURANCE
"Personal liability" insurance
Through its affiliation with the Departmental Committee of the French Cycling Federation, the organisation has signed a contract to cover its liability, as well as participant's personal liability when registered for the event, between the start and finish lines. This covers damage affecting the riders or damages they may accidentally cause others.
"Personal accident & injury" insurance
FFC licence holders benefit from an "individual accident" insurance.
For participants who are not affiliated to the French Cycling Federation, the organiser automatically take out an individual accident cover. The insurance provides cover that is identical to the cover of a FFC licence holder (including assistance cover), namely:
- Death: up to € 10,000 + € 5,000 if married + € 5,000 per dependent child;
- Permanent disability: € 100,000 € X disability rate (French national insurance accident sliding scale: 0 to 100%);
- Medical expenses: 150% of the French national insurance reimbursement rate;
- Medical care prescribed but not covered by French national insurance: € 200 per accident;
- Reimbursement for participants who do not receive any national insurance or CMU medical care: € 200 per accident;
- Dental care and dentures: € 500 per accident;
- Damage to glasses or contact lenses: € 200 per accident.
- Assistance in the event of injury or illness;
- Assistance in event of death;
- Assistance for transfers;
Important warning: in the event of an accident, "Individual Accident" insurance cover does not apply to participants not wearing helmet.
It is up to participants to ensure a sufficient insurance cover. Participants can increase their insurance cover by taking out additional policies from an insurer of their choice.
By taking part in the Alpes Open Tour, participants declare that they have been informed of the level of insurance provided by the organiser.

ARTICLE 7 – LOSS, THEFT AND DAMAGE
Participants are responsible for the insurance of the property, including bikes. The organiser is not liable in the event of the theft or for loss or damage in the event of a crash.
ARTICLE 8 – IMAGE RIGHTS AND PERSONAL DATA
In accordance with the French "informatique et liberté" Law of 6 January 1978, you have the right to access and rectify any personal information about you.
Participants expressly authorize the organisers to use any document or promotional medium, image or video in which they may appear, taken during their participation in the Alpes Open Tour, without limit of time.
ARTICLE 9 - ROUTE
The route is subject to the approval of French authorities and the weather conditions. The route may be changed before the start of the stage.
ARTICLE 10 - REGISTRATION
Registration must be completed before 1 August 2012 by sending the application form (click here to download the application form).
Participants can also register and pay on-line at www.velo101.com.
Registration in advance is advised; the organiser may limit the number of participants. Registration at the start is not possible.
The registration is non-refundable for any reason whatsoever.
A confirmation of registration will automatically be sent to all participants.

Registration fees - 5-day all-inclusive package:
This package includes:
- All registration fees;
- Sign-posted route;
- "Individual accident" insurance;
- The company of professional riders on the stages;
- Medical assistance (ambulance crew + doctor);
- Technical assistance vehicules;
- Broom wagon following the last participant;
- Two feed stations on each stages;
- A meal at each stage finish;
- Sports nutrition breakfast and dinner;
- An Alpes Open Tour gift;
- 6 nights in 2-star or 3-star hotels (from 12/08 to 18/08);
- Transport of your luggage from one hotel to the next.
* All the participants and organisers take their evening meals together: they are held in the resorts around the accommodation.
- 5-days (6 nights) - 3 star Hotels / Residence (last night in a 4 star Hotel):
€1950 in a single room or €1550 in a twin room
- 5-days (6 nights) - 2 star Hotels / Residence (last night in a 3 star Hotel):
€1550 in a single room or €1150 in a twin room
Optional extra:
- Shuttle to and from Geneva airport: + €120 per person
- Shuttle to and from Lyon or Grenoble airport: + €60 € per person
